The DST sanctioned Rs. 1.99 crores to the departments of Medical Bio-chemistry and Endocrinology (on Taramani campus) and the Department of Bio-Physics and Crystallography (on Guindy campus) and the Geography department (on the Chepauk campus) under the first phase of Fund for Improvement of S and T Infrastructure in Universities and Higher Educational Institutions Programme. The Anatomy, Microbiology, Genetics, Inorganic Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Geology and Applied Geology are to get Rs. 2.72 crores. The funds had been sanctioned after taking into consideration the potential of the departments ``for excellent research output and future innovative research programmes'', says a university release.
