By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI JAN. 14. The President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, has greeted the citizens on the occasion of Pongal, which is being celebrated on Wednesday.

In a message here today, the President said: ``On the occasion of Pongal, I extend my warm greetings to my fellow citizens and wish them happiness and prosperity. Pongal is symbolic of our traditional praise and respect for hard work. Hard work and sweat of millions of farmers gives rise to such a celebration.

``Let this festival also be symbolic of our love to our families and communities. May each Indian also share this joy with the poor by giving some material help to them.''
