Tamil Nadu-Chennai
By T.S. Shankar
But, this time, thanks to the availability of an "automatic airport visual range assessor", which provided instrumental observations to the pilots coupled with awareness created by the Pollution Control Board authorities about the ill-effects of burning waste, normality in flight operations was maintained, said E.K.N.K. Nair, Director, Chennai Airport Meteorological Office. Though the visibility level around 7 a.m. was as low as 200 mts and the poor visibility lasting over two hours today, Mr. Nair said the flight operations did not suffer major delays, barring a couple of flights which had a delayed departure of 15 minutes.
