Sir, This is with reference to Hasan Suroor's comment, `The sunny side of the Raj' (Jan. 18). The writer must also bear in mind that apart from being thankful to the British for bringing about civilisation in India, in a way, we must also thank them for the present Indo-Pak relations. It was due to British `divide and rule' policy that India and Pakistan were created as separate nations on the basis of Hinduism and Islam. We are suffering the consequences to this day, not only because of the hatred between India and Pakistan, but also because of the communal hatred within the country.
