Letters to the Editor
Sir, This has reference to the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee's recent call to the Governors to play a pro-active role in the development process. This is easily said than done. In the past, we have seen some cases where the Governor's constitutional duties were exercised. Such exercises were opposed by the ruling parties which said they were an interference and that they were anti-democratic in nature. In our country, all political parties, whether they are regional or national, without exception want the Governor to be a figure-head. The suggestion put forth is a laudable/noble one - but at party level I am afraid there will be no takers for this.
