Al-Qaeda threat to Advani feared

New Delhi Jan. 24. Al-Qaeda activists could be present in or around Delhi along with other Pakistani-backed terrorist outfits to disrupt Republic Day celebrations or target the Deputy Prime Minister, L. K. Advani, and some prominent leaders of the Hindu organisations, according to intelligence agencies.

The terrorists, who could launch an aerial attack using a micro-light plane, may also target the Indira Gandhi International Airport, the recently launched Delhi Metro, the Red Fort or public places, the Special Commissioner of Delhi Police (Security), S. K. Kain, said here today.

The terror gangs, which could include female suicide squads, are suspected to be hiding in or around Delhi, he said.

``There are regular inputs about threat to the President, A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, and the Deputy Prime Minister,'' Mr. Kain said.
