A pilot project will be launched in the next financial year to issue multi-purpose citizens cards containing details of place of residence and socio-economic status in 13 States including Jammu and Kashmir, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Assam, West Bengal, Tripura, Goa, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Delhi. The Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and other specialised agencies would be engaged on finalising the modalities for the project aimed at covering 29 lakh people in the first phase, the Union Minister of State for Home, Ch. Vidyasagar Rao, told reporters here on Saturday. ``The citizens cards will make the process easy for deporting illegal immigrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan. The exercise will also help deport those who stay in India even after expiry of their visa,'' he said. The project would be taken up in other parts of the country in phases.
