Rival groups clash at TD meet, many injured

By Our Staff Reporter

ANANTAPUR JAN. 25. The constituency coordination committee meeting of the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) at Uravakonda was called off abruptly today as rival groups clashed over change of loyalty by a senior member from one group to another. Two persons, one from each group, were said to have sustained stab injuries.

According to information reaching here, the two groups led by the constituency incharge of the party and former legislator, P. Keshav, and former MP (Congress) D. Pullaiah, picked up an argument over shifting of loyalty by one Janaki Ramaiah to the Pullaiah group, even before the commencement of the meeting.

As the arguments heated up, members of the two groups clashed with each other. They are said to have resorted to fisticuffs, torn clothes and thrown chappals at rivals. Several party workers were stated have sustained minor injuries in the melee.

About 50 partymen from both groups were taken away immediately by policemen to the police station. They were later released without registering any case. The two partymen who sustained stab injuries were moved to Bellary to cover up the situation.
