Ashok Chakra awarded

New Delhi Jan. 25. The elite National Security Guards (NSG) commando, Suresh Chand Yadav (41), who was killed in the operation to clear terrorists from the Akshardham temple in Gujarat in September last, has been awarded the Ashok Chakra, the highest peace-time gallantry award, on the occasion of the Republic Day.

This is the only Ashok Chakra announced this year. Yadav is survived by his wife and two children.

While havildar Rudal Prasad of Army's 4 Bihar has been honoured posthumously with Kirti Chakra, the second highest peace-time gallantry award, Naik Tarlok Singh of Mahar regiment and NSG commando, Surjan Singh have also been awarded the Kirti Chakra.
