The best team: Raj Singh

By Our Special Correspondent

Mumbai Jan. 26 . While presenting `All About World Cup', a glossy publication of the Egmont Imagination India Ltd., Raj Singh Dungarpur said: ``Had the great CK been alive today, the endorsements would have started and ended with C. K. Nayudu and that the team picked for the World Cup in South Africa is the best ever one-day side.

He said: ``Sourav Ganguly's team is the best India has produced. I will be sorry and surprised if the team fails to make the Super Six stage of the World Cup. What they need is a bit of luck, which someone like Ajit Wadekar had. He hates to be called a lucky captain, but Ajit was a magician, the magic man of Indian cricket.''

``The Indian team has one player who has the ability to win the World Cup. He is Sachin Tendulkar. He did not do much in 1992 in Australia. He scored a lot of runs in 1996 and his father dies during the 1999 event in England. He has played in three World Cups. I think he owes it to the Indian team.

After releasing the book Wadekar said: ``I thought the Indian team had a great time last year in England, until the setbacks in New Zealand. The team cannot be a machine, although we had talented and world-class players. But I thought the bowlers did extremely well. It's better to be the dark horse, because when you are not picked as the favourite team, you tend to do well. I hope the Indian team plays with vigour in South Africa.

``When we beat Pakistan in the quarterfinal at Bungler, we thought we won the World Cup. I think that victory went into the head of some players.

There should never be hype and hoopla surrounding the Indian team.

``We were not trained and inexperienced in 1975. We improved afterwards and even won the World Cup. We have made amends. Hopefully we will make the Super Six,'' said Ramchand.
