Gulf media showcases India's achievements

By Atul Aneja

MANAMA (Bahrain) Jan. 26. Reflecting the growing relationship between India and the Persian Gulf countries, India's commemoration of its 54th Republic Day has acquired a high media profile in the region. Most major newspapers in the region have brought out special supplements showcasing independent India's achievements over the years. Some of the newspapers such as the Oman Daily Observer have focused on the country as an attractive tourist destination and highlighted its strengths in alternative jewellery and the ayurveda. India's advances in the fields of computer software and satellite technology are a common theme of the special pull-outs brought out by several dailies, including Qatar's English dailies, Gulf Times and the Peninsula as well as the Khaleej Times of the United Arab Emirates. The celebration also featured in some Arab dailies, including Qatar's Al Sharq and Oman's Al Watan newspapers.

India's ambassadors hoisted the national flag in the Persian Gulf States, including Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Oman.
