Dhaka lodges protest

By Haroon Habib

DHAKA Jan. 26. The Bangladesh Government has lodged a protest against the `deportation' of `Bangladeshis' through the western border, adjoining West Bengal. The Indian Deputy High Commissioner was summoned to the Foreign Office today and told of Dhaka's unhappiness.

The formal protest was made after the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) had reportedly "foiled several BSF attempts to push in" over 200 persons into the country's territory through the various border-points during the last few days. The Director-General of South Asia summoned the Indian Deputy High Commissioner, Mr. Dilip Sinha, and expressed his Government's "deep concern."
