NHRC chief

New Delhi Jan. 27. The former Chief Justice of India, A. S. Anand, will be the next chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), replacing J. S. Verma.

His name is understood to have been cleared at a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister, A. B. Vajpayee, here this evening.

The former Chief Secretary to the Madhya Pradesh Government, Nirmala Buch, and a retired Supreme Court Judge, K. T. Thomas, will fill the two slots in the five-member body.

They will replace K. Ramaswamy and Sudarshan Aggarwal.
