Karnataka-Bangalore
By Our Special Correspondent
In a letter to the Union Minister for Petroleum, Ram Naik, Mr. Moily noted that LPG was being transported from Mangalore to Bangalore and other places in tankers. The tankers were prone to accidents and hundreds of people had lost their lives. The LPG pipeline project with a branch line to Mysore, which would cost Rs. 600 crore, had been included in the Tenth Five Year Plan. Mr. Moily noted that the product pipeline of Petronet to transport the products of the Mangalore Refineries and Petrochemicals Ltd. had already been laid and was due for commissioning. The LPG pipeline could be laid parallel to that pipeline without acquiring fresh land. In Andhra Pradesh, a product pipeline from the Vizag refinery to Hyderabad via Vijayawada and an LPG pipeline from Vishakapatnam to Hyderabad had been laid. He urged Mr. Naik to ensure that the Mangalore-Bangalore LPG pipeline project was included in the Union budget for 2003-04.
