India denies Pak. shot down UAV

New Delhi Jan. 28. India today denied that Pakistan had shot down one of its Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) which had strayed across the border.

``There is no truth in this claim. If the UAV was shot down on Sunday where is the wreckage,'' a Defence Ministry spokesman said. — UNI

According to an official statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations, Pakistani forces downed one of two remote-controlled planes that violated Pakistani air space along the Line of Control (LoC).

``One of the planes flew up to 6 km into the Pakistani territory,'' the statement said.

It said the incursions took place late Sunday. A military spokesman said the downed plane was seen falling in flames onto the Indian territory. "During the last year about 200 such violations occurred.''

The military spokesman has said that Indian Remote Piloted Vehicles (RPV) violated Pakistan air space twice in Shingu and Haji Pir sectors along LOC during the last 48 hours.

In the Shingu sector it was claimed that the Indian RPV entered about 2 km inside Pakistan airspace while in the Haji Pir sector the ingress was about 6 km.

According to Pakistan, during 2002 about 200 such violations occurred, the "proof of which has been provided with the shooting down of these unmanned aircraft in the past''.
