Sir, K.K. Katyal's article "Challenges for the Congress" (Jan. 27) points out the need for a responsible and vigilant Opposition in the form of the Congress to counter the BJP's current agenda of aggressive Hindutva. The BJP is taking well-planned steps one after another (Gujarat, Rajasthan and, most recently, in Kerala), whereas the Congress is in a defensive mode. But a party with a history of 118 years behind it cannot shy away from the responsibilities handed over to it by the nation. It should rise to the occasion as the BJP and its "non-NDA" allies desperately seek to propagate their Hindutva agenda in the coming Assembly polls in four States. Anuj Sharma, New Delhi
