Parliament passes record number of Bills

New Delhi Jan. 29. Parliament passed as many as 93 Bills this year, which is the highest during the past 25 years and the third highest since 1947.

A total number of 210 legislations were enacted during the past three years, according to an official release.

The important Bills passed during this year include the Constitution (Amendment) Bill making education a fundamental right for children in the age group of 6-14 years, economic and corporate laws relating to the Securities and Exchange Board of India, the Unit Trust of India, the Securitisation and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest Bill, the Competition Bill and the Prevention of Money Laundering Bill.

In the category of welfare legislations, the Consumer Protection (Amendment) Bill and the Biological Diversity Bill were the important Bills passed this year.

The Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (Regulation and Prevention of Misuse (Amendment) Bill was another important Bill passed by Parliament. — UNI
