BJP backs out of bypoll

Chennai Jan. 30. The Bharatiya Janata Party today backed out of the February 26 byelection to the Sathankulam Assembly constituency in Tamil Nadu.

The party president, Venkaiah Naidu, conveyed this to the party national secretary, L. Ganesan, this afternoon.

The BJP's decision is likely to result in a straight fight between the ruling AIADMK and the Congress(I). — UNI
