Free rice for Pondy farmers

Pondicherry Jan. 30 . The Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy, today announced that all families under the red colour ration card system would be distributed 10 kg rice free of cost in Pondicherry as a drought relief measure.

He said the scheme would come into effect on February 10 and this would entail an expenditure of Rs 37 lakhs to the government. He said already the administration had decided to supply 25 kg rice free of cost as an immediate drought relief measure. There was a request that ryots in Pondicherry be also covered and hence the decision to benefit the farmers here.
