A communication from the Deputy Director of Forests in the Department of Forests and Wildlife here today said the regional committees would also have representatives of the Departments of Police, Forests, Fisheries and Animal Husbandry as members. Police officers not below the rank of sub inspectors would be authorised for the purpose of Section 55 of the Act. Mobile squads comprising officers of the Police, Forest and Revenue departments would also be formed. These decisions were taken at the State level coordination committee held here on Wednesday for enforcing the Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972 in the Union Territory of Pondicherry. The Inspector General of Police is the Chairman of the State committee while the Chief Wildlife Warden is the member Secretary .The other members are the Senior Superintendent of Police, the Additional District Magistrate, SP (Special branch) and Regional Administrators from the outlying regions of Mahe, Karaikal and Yanam are members.
