Pondicherry, Jan. 30. The Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy today announced that the Government has decided to distribute cycles to school students belonging to all sections irrespective of castes under a scheme of the Social Welfare department from next year. Handing over nearly 582 cycles to students belonging to the BC and SC sections at Kamban Kalai Arangam here today, he said the Administration felt that there should be no discrimination on the basis of castes when cycles were distributed to students as the other section of students who have not been covered under the scheme now felt they were being neglected. Mr.Rangasamy who also gave away cash awards to students proficient in school final examinations under a scheme of the V. Subbiah Educational award he appealed to the students to make use of the facilities available in the schools either in the form of infrastructure or educational ambience to emerge distinct winners in tests. The Education Minister, K. Lakshminarayanan said that no school would be left to reel under any shortcomings. The Social Welfare Minister, M.Chandirakasu, the legislators S P Sivakumar and Annibal Kennedy spoke.
