Secretariat on Marina in 2 years

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI JAN. 31 . While noting that the proposed administrative city at Sholinganallur, near here, would take 15-25 years to build, the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, today said the Secretariat would be shifted to a vacant space opposite the Marina in the next two years. The new building would be more majestic than the Vidhan Soudha of Bangalore, she told the Assembly. The present 10-storey building in Fort St. George, constructed by the DMK Government in 1974, was already in a dilapidated state. Also, there was not adequate space.

The new Secretariat would be constructed in the space between the Queen Mary's College and the Vivekananda House. Although Fort St. George spanned 107.5 acres, the space occupied by the Secretariat was only 3.9 acres, she pointed out.
