Bajaj Auto sales up

MUMBAI FEB. 1. Bajaj Auto has posted a 4.2 per cent growth in sales of its two and three wheelers for January at 1.21 lakh units against 1.16 lakh units in the same month of the previous year.

Sales of two wheelers showed a marginal growth of 1.8 per cent at 1.03 lakh units in January (1.01 lakh units) with the motorcycle segment showing a 19.8 per cent rise at 75,059 units (62,650 units), according to a company release.

Exports have surged by 98.6 per cent to 10,089 units against 5,081 units in the same period last year.

The company said the Byk motorcycle in its second month of the launch has registered sales of 5,954 units, taking the cumulative sales to over 9,900 units. It plans to sell 10,000 units this month and 15,000 units in March, as the product reach extends nation-wide, the release added.

Pulsar, the motorcycle in the premium segment, closed last month with 22,990 units. It plans to produce and supply over 25,000 units this month and further increase supplies to 30,000 units in March.On three wheelers, the company said the demand had been strong and it sold 17,426 units last month against 14,405 units in the same period last year.

A new motorcycle in the executive segment is scheduled for launch this month.

Hero Honda

Hero Honda Motors sold 1.46 lakh motorcycles in January against 1.25 lakh units in the same month in the previous year, a rise of 16.45 per cent.

Cumulative sales (April-January 2002-03) were up 22.68 per cent at 14.27 lakh units against 11.63 units in the same period in the previous year, says a company release.
