Jammu & Kashmir
Official sources said the two sisters Zahida and Shaheena were arrested by the security forces from their house at Mir Sahib in the downtown early today. They were released in the afternoon. Thousands of people, mostly women, took to the streets in protest against the arrest. The demonstrators, raising slogans against the coalition government and the security forces, alleged that personnel from the Army and the Special Operation Group of the State police arrested the two sisters and took them to a camp. They said the girls had lodged a complaint recently with the district authorities that an Army officer was harassing them. The demonstrators criticised the government for not taking any step to prevent the atrocities committed by the security forces. UNI
