Green activists create flutter at leather fair

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI FEB. 1. A group of activists of the Greenpeace and Pasumai Thaayagam today created a flutter at the Leather Fair 2003-Fashion Show by unfurling a bannner which highlighted the damage caused by tanneries.

Even as the event was on, the volunteers walked up the ramp and unfurled the banner which contained the message `Tanneries kill rivers, environment, people'. The organisers intervened soon and the show continued. The Union Minister of State for Commerce, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, left the place embarrassed.
