CRY programme today

By Our Special Correspondent

Bangalore Feb. 1. On Sunday evening, a group of children will display their talents in dance, music, and acting at a school in Bangalore. Nothing new, except these are children who normally do not go to school and never get a chance to learn music and dance or perform in front of an audience.

Child Relief and You (CRY) has arranged this programme at Bishop Cotton Girls' School, and the children are 75 among the many helped by them to go back to school.

With the help of donors, CRY makes it possible for the children to study and, eventually, have a choice over their own future. According to Regina Thomas, Director-South of CRY, many children in city slums and those from the homes of the rural poor are forced into working to help out their families.

The cost of educating them is too much for the parents, and without an education, the future of the children is no better than the present lot of their parents.

``It is also an opportunity for our many partners to see how any child can blossom with enough care and the opportunity to learn,'' Ms. Thomas says. On Sunday, donors will get to meet some of the children and learn, first hand, how their lives have changed for the better.
