Mechanic crushed under pipe at BWSSB project site

BANGALORE Feb. 2. A mechanic was killed and another was injured when a huge pipe fell from a crane at Pattareddipalya in Talaghattapura Police Station limits where a private firm was laying a BWSSB pipeline.

It is said that the mishap occurred when the hook of the crane gave way and the pipe fell on Shabir Khan (28), a mechanic with the company, and another person identified as Muniram Sadak. While the former died on the spot, the latter was admitted to a hospital.

Talaghattapura Police have registered a case.

4 handed over to police: The people of Byadarahalli on Magadi Road in Tavarekere Police Station limits in Bangalore Rural District handed over a group of four persons to police suspecting their bona fides.

It is said that the local people grew suspicious about the movements of a group of people who were frequenting the house of a woman in the village in the last few days. They four persons and handed them over to the police.

Police said the group had been visiting the village in the last one week. On Sunday, the local people stopped the vehicle in which the group was travelling and threw stones at it. When the strangers took to their heels, the local people caught four of them, and handed them over to the police. The police said they were visiting a woman of easy virtue in the area.

Killed in mishap: An Iranian student, identified as Reja Jefri, died in a road accident while his friend was injured near LRDE Circle on Palace Road on Sunday. Police said the accident occurred when the motorcycle which they were riding, was knocked down by a can.

Mr. Jefri died on the way to a hospital while his friend, Kamroot, escaped with injuries.

Mr. Jefri was a student of I year B.Sc. (Computer science). The matador has been seized and its driver arrested.

In another accident, Ananthram (25), a motorcyclist from Mahalakshmipura, died when his vehicle was hit by a tempo near Kalyananagar-Ring Road junction in Banaswadi Police Station limits last evening. He died on the way to Bowring Hospital. The Frazer Town Traffic Police have seized the tempo and are looking for its driver.

Arrested: Yeshwanthpur Police arrested Gourishankar alias Babu alias Suri (43) of Nallurhalli in White Field and recovered gold jewellery valued at Rs. three lakh.

The police said the accused had stolen these articles from in Peenya, Yeshwnathpur, Sanajayanagar, and Jalahalli Police Station limits. He had been convicted in several cases, it is said.
