`Convert setback into an opportunity'

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE Feb. 2. Three hundred fifty students, 235 boys from the tenth standard and 115 from the 12th standard, graduated from Bishop Cotton Boys High School here on Sunday.

Nostalgic about their memories at the school, and with dreams in their eyes, some of the students narrated their experiences at the school.

"The school has equipped us today for what we will be tomorrow," said a confident Abhijeet Shetty, School Captain, who is graduating from the 12th standard.

Speaking at the Graduation Day ceremony, Margaret Alva, MP, advised the students to use their life and the education that they received from their institution not only for themselves but also for the good of society. "All change comes from the youth.

ven in today's times, there are people in important positions who are looking backwards instead of looking to the future. You should have the courage to question and face challenges, have the courage to yes and no," she said.

She told the boys to be instruments of change and work for the betterment of the country.

K.Kasturirangan, Chairman, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), said India was one of the top six countries in the world to have a space programme and this had been achieved after a lot of effort. There had been setbacks but people should learn from them, he said.

He urged the students to change any setback they faced into opportunities and allow them to strengthen their personalities.

Abhijeet Shetty was presented Captain's medal while the Maiden Cup was awarded to Raj Sadhwani of 12th standard (Commerce).

Guru Raghavendra of 10th standard received the most caring boarder (in the residential school) award and Vishal V. was adjudged Best Prefect. Aditya Singh was awarded the IT Captain award, Abhijeet Poonja the Sports Captain award and Rajeev Ebenezer was given the Music Captain award. Aditya Singh was awarded for securing a seat at Stanford University. Fr. Vasanth Kumar, Bishop, Central Diocese, Karnataka, and Abraham Ebenezer, Principal of the school, were present.
