T.N. gets water

MYSORE FEB. 7. Water was released from the Kabini reservoir in Beechanahalli (H.D. Kote taluk) of Karnataka to Tamil Nadu today amid heavy security around the dam. The decision followed the Supreme Court's directives on Thursday ordering the State to release 4,500 cusecs of water till the Cauvery River Authority (CRA) met on February 10.

Sources in the office of the Command Area Development Authority and the Irrigation Department told The Hindu that about 4,000 cusecs of water was being released since this morning, while 600 cusecs more was entering the riverbed by way of seepage, which amounted to more than 4,500 cusecs.

The water level at the Kabini Reservoir today was 2,256.87. The inflow was 153 cusecs.
