The two accused, Anjum Zamrud Habib, who worked on the Hurriyat's socio-human rights front, and Shabir Ahmed Dar, in-charge of the Hurriyat's Kashmir Awareness Bureau here, have been arrested under Section 22 of the Prevention of Terrorism Act for allegedly providing funds to terrorist outfits. The Special Cell had arrested the two on Thursday. While Ms. Habib was arrested when she was coming out of the Pakistan High Commission allegedly with Rs. 3 lakhs, Mr. Dar was arrested later from the bureau's office. Though Ms. Habib denied the statement attributed to her by police, she admitted having received the money from the charge d'affaires in the Pakistan High Commission, Jaleel Abbas Gilani, as "nazrana" (gift) for the Hurriyat Conference chairman, Abdul Ghani Bhat. Mr. Gilani has also been named in the FIR. Ms. Habib denied having any link with any terrorist organisation. Rather, she submitted before the court that she had gone to the High Commission to receive a copy of the book titled "Independent Survey of Elections". Mr. Dar said the cash (Rs. 2 lakhs), which police had recovered from him, was given by the Hurriyat Conference to take care of the office expenditure here.
