Putin briefs Vajpayee

NEW DELHI FEB. 7. The Russian President, Vladimir Putin, telephoned the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, today and briefed him on the just-concluded visit of the Pakistan President, Pervez Musharraf, to Moscow.

The conversation, which lasted 25 minutes, was the second in the past few days. Earlier, Mr. Putin telephoned Mr. Vajpayee on the eve of the Musharraf visit.According to sources, Mr. Putin told Mr. Vajpayee that he had called on Gen. Musharraf to end cross-border terrorism directed against India and also dismantle the terrorism infrastructure in Pakistan.

The sources pointed out that the conversations were a pointer to the strength of the bilateral relationship between India and Russia.Such conversations could only take place between close allies.

The External Affairs Minister, the sources added, would visit Moscow in the near future to take forward the process of bilateral dialogue.
