SRINAGAR FEB. 8. Police today claimed to have arrested top leaders of the pro-Pakistan Jamiat-ul-Mujahideen (JuM) in the valley and neutralised the group.

The Inspector General of Police, K. Rajendra, told presspersons here that six militants, including Gulzar Ahmad Bhat alias Mehrajuddin, chief commander of the JuM and his five associates have been arrested.

The others arrested have been identified as Abdul Rahim Rather alias Chacha, Ghulam Mohammad Dar alias Mama, Mohammad Youuf Baba, Khursheed Ahmed and Mustaq Ahmed Mir. Claiming that with their arrest the outfit had been neutralised in the Valley, the IGP said it was a major success for the police.

``The militants, however, always regroup to continue the violence,'' he said.

The arrested militants were involved in various incidents of violence and killings in several parts of the Valley.

The IGP said one of the arrested militants, Mushtaq Ahmad Mir, was involved in detonating IED's and had killed two security personnel at Watlab. Police recovered two AK rifles and others arms and ammunition, including hand-grenades, two pistols and wireless sets from the possession of the arrested persons.
