Pondicherry

Inaugurating a two-day 13th annual South Indian Numismatic Conference organised by the Pondicherry Administration in cooperation with the South Indian Numismatic Society, Chennai, here today, he said the Government was keen to preserve the archaeological significance of the Arikamedu site in the Ariankuppam commune and the Centre would provide necessary assistance in this regard. Heritage features of Pondicherry should be preserved, he stressed. Once the proposed Secondary Education Board was set up efforts would be made to highlight the cultural features and also numismatic aspects of the society. He released the publications of the Society. The Education Minister, K. Lakshminarayanan, who presided, said the Administration had taken steps to procure the documents relating to Pondicherry preserved in France. This would help the Government to showcase Pondicherry vis-a-vis the French culture. R. Krishnamoorthy, Editor of Dinamalar and vice-president of the Society, called for research on Pondicherry culture.
