Admission policy: ABVP plans stir

By Our Special Correspondent

HUBLI Feb. 8. The State unit of the Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishat has accused the managements of private and unaided educational institutions of trying to mislead the people on the judgment of the Supreme Court and questioned the propriety of the State Government holding talks with private managements to discuss the issues that have been thrown up by the judgment.

M. Nagaraja, President of the ABVP State unit, told presspersons here today that a Statewide movement against the attitude of the private managements and the Government would be launched to create public awareness. A protest rally by educationists, students, and parents would be held in front of the residence of the Chief Minister, S.M. Krishna, on Tuesday. Besides, meetings of parents and students would be held in Hubli, Bijapur, and Mysore on Tuesday and Wednesday, he said.

The ongoing discussions with the managements were a misleading exercise, since the Government had no moral authority to do so. Many ministers and MLAs were associated with the managements and it had turned out to be "talk between two managements" and not between the Government and the managements, he said.

Dr. Nagaraja demanded that ministers associated with managements of educational institutions should be kept away from the discussions. The Minister for Higher Education, G. Parameshwar, who was a partner in the management of a private educational institution, should resign from the Ministry, he said.

Dr. Nagaraja suggested that a committee comprising educationists and experts be constituted to lay down a clear policy to implement the ruling of the Supreme Court in letter and spirit.
