According to an Election department statement here, out of 35 nominations filed, eight were rejected. The nomination of the Janata Dal (United) candidate, S. Sundarapandian, was also accepted. Our Tirunelveli Staff Reporter reports: The eight rejected nominations include that of alternative candidates of the AIADMK and the Congress. The nominations were scrutinised in the presence of the Central observers. Twenty seven candidates are in the fray. The final list will be available after withdrawal of nominations on February 10. The counting will be held on March 1 at the Government Polytechnic, Tuticorin. The Tuticorin Collector, R. Thiyagarajan, will be hold a meeting of political parties on February 10, to secure their support for a free and fair election.
