Tamil Nadu-Chennai
By Our Staff Reporter
Mr. Moorthy, who laid the foundation stone for the construction work, said the 17-km-long line, covering four stations, was expected to cost Rs. 21 crores. The completion of this line would facilitate free flow of traffic between Chennai and Tiruvallur. He assured that steps would be taken to sanction one more line between Tiruvallur and Arakkonam (in addition to the existing two lines) after the completion of the current project to tackle the rise in the number of commuters on the Chennai-Arakkonam section. The Sriperumbudur MP, A. Krishnasamy, said with the sanction of the fourth line between Pattabiram and Tiruvallur, the 20-year struggle of suburban commuters had been brought to an end. The project would meet the rise in the traffic in the suburban section with more frequencies of EMU services. Steps should be taken to rectify flaws in the announcement system of departure and arrival of the trains at Pattabiram. Mr. Krishnasamy suggested that a railway station be set up at Nemilicheri. Representations for construction of overbridges at Pattabiram and Thiruninravur were submitted to the Minister. The Poonamallee MLA, M.S. Shanmugam, wanted more passenger amenities including construction of overbridges at the Avadi railway station.
