Rushdie, Padma split

By Hasan Suroor

LONDON FEB. 9. Novelist Salman Rushdie and the Tamil model, Padma Lakshmi, are reported to have split, three years after they started a steamy relationship that took New York's glitterati by storm. But there was no public comment from either of them.

While Ms. Lakshmi, who famously said that she fell in love with "Salman in the first 60 seconds that I laid my eyes on him'', is reported to have told friends that she got "bored'' of him, Mr. Rushdie's version is that he no longer found her "intellectually challenging'' enough, according to The Sunday Times.

Ms. Lakshmi is 20 years younger than the 55-year-old writer who, soon after the affair started, described her as the best thing that had happened to him.
