The State committee was dissolved last month following dissidence by MPs and MLAs close to the Railway Minister, Nitish Kumar, who demanded the resignation of the State party chief, Raghunath Jha and succeeded in their effort. Questioning the validity of the dissolution, the Samata party leader in the Bihar Legislative Council, P.K. Sinha, in a petition to the EC sought revocation of the decision as organisational elections were underway in the party. The decision to dissolve the State committee was taken at a meeting of the Parliamentary party, which was not authorised to decide. Returning officers too had been appointed and a special committee formed under a dissident leader and MP, Bashishta Narain Singh, to supervise the polls, he said.
