Tourism policy to be announced today

BANGALORE Feb. 10. The State Government will announce the new tourism policy tomorrow at the inaugural of "Connect II", a conference on private-public partnership.

The Minister of State for Tourism and IT, D.B. Inamdar, told presspersons here today that the conference would be inaugurated by the Chief Minister, S.M. Krishna, who will speak on "Tourism - New-Age Development Agenda".

The one-day meet will focus on several areas of tourism in the State. Following the success of Connect I held in February 2002, which attracted over 500 decision-makers in the tourism industry, the second conference is being organised in a big way.

Among those who would be addressing Connect II are Amitabh Kant, Joint Secretary, Tourism, Government of India; Vinay Luthra, Managing Director, Jungle Lodges and Resorts; S. Krishnakumar, Principal Secretary, Infrastructure Development; B.S. Patil, Chief Secretary; Hugh Gantzer, tourism writer; I.S. Wahi, President, Indian Association of Tour Operators; and Suresh Kumar, Vice-President of ITC Hotels.

Mr. Krishna will also launch the "Athithi'" home-stay programme.
