Three persons of the same village were also severely beaten during the 12-hour operation carried out by suspected members of the People's Guerilla Army. According to the police, a 30-member armed team, including eight women naxals, reached the village in the evening and took away Malliah, who was also chairman of the watershed committee, into the forest area. They beat him with electric wires and rifle butts. The naxals also inquired about one Dhavirya, a member of MPTC, before Mallaiah fell unconscious. Later, they went to the house of Kishan Reddy, the Chandampet ZPTC member, and inquired about his whereabouts. On knowing that he was out of station, the naxals planted a bomb in his house after evicting the family members of Mr. Reddy. But, the bomb did not explode. After waiting for an hour at the house, they took out the bomb and set his tractor ablaze. Then the naxals began searching for local TDP leaders, who according to them were defying their warnings and continuing their political activities. In the wee hours of Monday, the naxal team found Kodari Anjaneyulu, Venkataiah and Anjaiah at a temple and caned them for nearly 40 minutes. They were let off with warnings. At about 2 a.m., the naxals beat a retreat raising revolutionary slogans. The body of Mallaiah was brought to the Government hospital here only in the evening as nobody helped the family shift it into vehicle. Mr. Sukhender Reddy and the TDP ad hoc committee convener, A. Sudarshan, reached here in the evening and paid homage to the slain party activist. Our Vizianagaram Correspondent writes: Suspected PW naxalites torched an APSRTC bus, a jeep and deflated tyres of another bus at Gotlapadar on the Andhra-Orissa border in the district around 8.30 p.m. on Sunday. The belligerent action by the outlawed group was in protest against the arrest of the Area Committee member of the Special Guerilla Squad, Chelluru Radra Murty alias Naresh, and a militant, Vulaka Pothayya alias Kishore under POTA on February 6, according to a note left with the RTC bus driver. According to information reaching here, the bus was bound for Neelakantapuram in G.L. Puram mandal in Vizianagaram district from Battili in Srikakulam district via Gotlapadar. The bus belongs to Palasa depot. As soon as it reached Gotlapadar, eight armed naxalites, including a woman cadre, in the age group of 18-30 years stopped the bus and asked the passengers to alight. They asked the bus driver, Mohd. Jangiri, to hand over keys of the diesel tank. When the driver said he had no keys, the naxalites broke open the lock with an axe they carried with them and torched the bus after spilling the diesel on it. They also torched a jeep in which two RTC squad members and driver were travelling from G.L. Puram to Battili around the same time in a similar way. Later, the naxalites deflated tyres of a Srikakulam -Neelakantapuram bus. Confirming the incident, the Superintendent of Police, Soumya Mishra, said a case was registered in Battili police station in Srikakulam district and it would be transferred to Gunupur police station in Rayagada district of Orissa. This was the fourth incident at Gotlapadar. In the past, the naxalites blasted the police outpost, killed a police informer, Narasimha Sabhu and ambushed a vehicle in which seven CRPF jawans were killed.
