However, though all the accused appeared before VI Metropolitan Magistrate M. Sambasivam, the charge sheet could not be served on them as a sufficient number of copies were not available. The magistrate then posted the matter to April 7 for hearing. The matter pertains to the long-drawn legal battle over control of the trust, for which A. Thangamani, retired judge of the High Court, and nine members were nominated by the court as per an apex court direction. The panel comprised five members from the Vanniar community. When the chairman and four non-Vanniar members went to the trust board office on October 4 last, they were blocked by over 50 persons, who said a non-Vanniar should not be a chairman and other non-Vanniar members also should resign. The group, allegedly headed by Mr. Mani, used unparliamentary words against the court-nominated functionaries, closed the office gates and threatened them to resign from the post. The High Court directed the Trust secretary to prefer a police complaint in connection with the unruly incidents, and also initiated contempt proceedings against the PMK founder-leader, S. Ramadoss.
