Tamil Nadu-Chennai
By Our Special Correspondent
According to police, Rameshkumar (31) of West Mogappair and his relative, Suman (23) of Ambattur, both financiers, were waiting at the bus stand when the gangsters came in a white Maruti Omni car (TN 01 4057) and kidnapped them at knifepoint. The gangsters later telephoned Mr. Rameshkumar's uncle and demanded Rs. 2 lakhs for the safe release of the captives. They warned that if the police were alerted or they suspected any foul play, they would murder the hostages. They directed that the ransom be brought to a particular spot. However, the family members alerted the police. Following this, the Chengai East SP, A.G. Pon Manickavel, formed a special team, which tracked down the gangsters and rescued the victims. The culprits were identified as an alleged notorious rowdy sheeter, Mahendran of Pulianthope, and his associates, Prakash and Yousuf Salim. The Maruti car and the cellular phone used by the gangsters were also seized.
