Dacoits take away cash from petrol bunk

BANGALORE FEB. 10. Four dacoits took away Rs. 50,000 in cash and other valuables from a petrol bunk in Bidadi police station limits in Bangalore District on Sunday night.

According to police, the dacoits attacked the workers of A.C. Girihalli Niketan Service Petrol Bunk, on Bangalore-Mysore Road near Bidadi, with knives and rods.

The workers suffered minor injuries during the attack, police say. They say the dacoits took away a cell phone and wrist watches from the workers of the bunk.

The dacoits, who spoke in Kannada, were between 25 and 30 years of age. Bidadi police have booked a case.

5 held for murder

MICO Layout police have arrested five people in connection with the murder of rowdy-sheeter Aslam, alias Chanthar Aslim, near the Tilaknagar junction on February 6.

Police have identified the accused as Basha Khan alias Puru Khan (28) of Padarayanapura, Kumar (28) of J.J. Nagar, Babu (22) of Yelahanka, Neyu alias Nayim (22) of Ilyasnagar, and Babu (24) of Anjanappa Garden, Cottonpet.

The accused reportedly told police that Aslam had been extorting money from some of them. They said that in February 2002, he attacked one of their acquaintances, who suffered severe injuries.

Therefore, they planned to murder Aslam, who lived in Goripalya, the accused reportedly told police.

Aslam was attacked with lethal weapons by a gang of eight to 10 persons while he was going on a scooter along with his friend, Muneer. Aslam died of injuries, and Muneer is recovering.

Police have recovered motorcycles used by the accused, and begun a search for the autorickshaw used by them.

Held for chain snatching

Girinagar police have arrested two persons who allegedly snatched gold chains from women. Police have identified the accused as Shashikumar (20) of Magadi Road, and Murali alias Appandi (19) of Banashankari.

With the arrest, 14 cases of chain snatching reported from Girinagar, Banashankari, and Subramanyapura have been solved, according to police. Gold chains and two-wheelers, including two motorcycles and three mopeds, worth Rs. 2 lakh, have been reportedly recovered from the accused.

The accused were arrested on Friday near the Ganesha Temple in Banashankari 3rd Stage.
