By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI FEB. 11. The President, the Vice-President, the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha have greeted the nation on the occasion of Id-ul-Zuha which will be celebrated on Wednesday.

In his message, the President, A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, said: "Let us, on this day, recall the spirit of sacrifice and resolve to work together for peace, harmony and national unity. This day is also an occasion to share our joy with all our people and to share our happiness and resources with the suffering people who are in need.''

Greeting the nation, the Vice-President, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, said: ``This moment reminds us all that man's readiness to sacrifice everything to God's will, shall bless us with divine grace and compassion''.

The Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, in his greetings, said: "The festival symbolises the spirit of sacrificing our ego and narrow self-interest at the altar of the common good. It inspires us to work for peace, amity, brotherhood and harmony among all sections of our great nation.''

Stating that ``Id-ul-Zuha symbolises the great sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim'', the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, joined the community in ``reaffirming our faith in the ideals of peace, compassion and service, which is the essence of the teachings of Islam''.
