CPI to take up tribals' issues in 5 States

By Our Staff Reporter

BHADRACHALAM Feb. 11. The CPI general secretary, A. B. Bardhan, today said Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand were of immediate priority so far as the party's plan of action was concerned in fighting tribal problems.

Addressing a State-level tribal convention, he said the party had decided to revive its all-India level tribal organisation — Akhil Bharatiya Adivasi Mahasangh — to organise the tribals facing an uncertain future on account of the Government's move to evict them from the forests. The eviction policy was resulting in the displacement of people living in pockets where there was no trace of a tree. The drive was based on a false theory that the forests were endangered by the adivasis.
