Records for Symonds

** Wasim Akram appearing in his 33rd World Cup match equalled the tally of former team mate Javed Miandad and Australian Steve Waugh, to become players with most Cup appearances.

** The catch of Jimmy Maher was Rashid Latif's 150th of his career in his 183rd match as keeper. He becomes the second Pakistani after Moin Khan (191 catches) and the sixth keeper to reach this landmark.

** Andrew Symonds' unbeaten 143 was his maiden hundred in his 55th match. His previous highest was the unbeaten 68 he made against India at Galle on 23-8-1999.

** Symonds recorded the highest score by an Australian at this ground. Michael DiVenuto had previously made 89 against the home team on 8-4-1997.

** It is also the highest by an Australian in South Africa. Ricky Ponting had made 129 against the home team at Bloemfontein 30-3-2002.

** It is also the highest ever individual score made at this ground eclipsing the previous best of 133 (not out) by South African Gary Kirsten against India on 5-10-2001.

** Symonds became the only second Australian to score a century while batting at number six. Michael Bevan had made 102 not out against New Zealand at Melbourne on 29-1-2002.

** Symonds' 143 is now the second highest individual score by a batsman at number six in LOI history.

Only Kapil Dev (175* against Zimbabwe at Tunbridge Wells in 1983) has made a bigger score while batting at number six.

** However Symonds becomes the first number six batsman to make a hundred against Pakistan.

** Symonds now has the highest score by an Australian in a World Cup match. Mark Waugh had made 130 against Kenya at Visakhapatnam on 23-2-1996.

** Australia's total of 310-8 is the highest made by any team at this ground. South Africa had made 280-4 (in 48.2 overs) against India on 5-10-2001.

** Though Australia's highest total in a World Cup game still remains 328-5 against Sri Lanka at The Oval on 11-6-1975, this was made in a 60-over match. Hence the 310-8 is its highest in a 50-over World Cup match.

** The catch of Afridi was Adam Gilchrist's 250th dismissal (213 ct+37 st) in 148 matches. He becomes the only second keeper in LOI history to reach this landmark after Pakistan's Moin Khan, who has 257 dismissals (191ct+66st) in 182 matches. For the record, Moin needed 176 matches to

reach 250 dismissals in 2000.

** The 54-run partnership between Rashid Latif and Wasim Akram was Pakistan's best for the 8th wicket in the World Cup obliterating the previous best of 36 between Zaheer Abbas and Sarfraz Nawaz against England in the 1983 edition on 13-6-1983. The partnership was also the best by any team against Australia in the World Cup for the 8th wicket.

** The wicket of Wasim Akram was Ian Harvey's 50th of his career in 44 matches. He becomes the 24th Australian and the 138th bowler in LOI history to reach this landmark.

** Since its back to back loss to Pakistan in June 2002 at Melbourne and Brisbane respectively, Australia has appeared in 19 matches - winning 16, losing just two (both to Sri Lanka), with one match ending in no-result! During this same period Pakistan in 22 matches has lost 11 and won 10 - with victories coming against Sri Lanka (1), Kenya (2), Holland (1), Zimbabwe (5) and South Africa (1).

** This was Canada's fourth LOI and also WC match. It was the team's first since the 1979 WC.

** The 23-run partnership between Desmond Chumney and Ian Billcliff was Canada's best for the third wicket bettering the previous best of 18 put on by Franklyn Dennis and Martin Stead against Pakistan at Leeds on 9-6-1979.

** Ian Billcliff's 42 just failed to surpass Glen Sealy's 45 against Pakistan at Leeds on 9-6-1979, which still remains the highest score by a Canadian batsman.

** Canada's total of 180 runs (49.1 overs) was its highest in LOIs. Its previous highest was the 139-9 it made in 60 overs against Pakistan at Leeds on 9-6-1979.

** Austin Codrington's 5-27 was the best bowling figures by a Canadian bowler in LOIs. The previous best was the 2-27 by CC "Neil" Henry against Australia at Birmingham on 16-6-1979. This was also the best bowling performance against Bangladesh in a World Cup match. The previous best was the 5-35 by Pakistani Saqlain Mushtaq at Northampton on 31-5-1999.

** Codrington's figures are the best by a bowler from a non-Test playing nation. Only two other bowlers have five wicket hauls in LOIs - 5-29 by Shaukat Dukanwala for UAE against Holland at Lahore on 1-3-1996 and 5-33 by Aasif Karim for Kenya against Bangladesh at Nairobi (Gym) on 10-10-1997.

** Codrington, meanwhile becomes the only second bowler to take a five-wicket haul at this ground after Pakistan's Waqar Younis' 5-25 against the home side on 9-2-1993.
