Shop selling Valentine's Day cards vandalised

New Delhi Feb. 13. Sending out a ``warning'' on the eve of Valentine's Day, about a dozen Shiv Sena activists today vandalised a gift shop selling cards and other merchandise in East Delhi and advised parents to restrain their children from celebrations tomorrow.

In a hit-and-run action, the activists descended on the shop located on the Vikas Marg, smashed window panes with iron rods and overturned furniture before escaping.

While the shopkeeper denied that any such incident had taken place, the Station House Keeper of Shakarpur said he had lodged a complaint with the police saying ``some incident'' had taken place. He, however, dismissed it as a ``minor incident'' and said police were investigating the case.

Owning up responsibility for the incident, the Delhi Sena chief, Jai Bhagwan Goyal, told PTI that ``our boys had politely asked him not to promote this western concept. He not only refused, but also misbehaved with them''.

``This is a warning for the rest of the city. We request establishments including shops, hotels and restaurants not to celebrate this western festival which is against our culture and values and is being promoted to corrupt our youth,'' Mr. Goyal said. He also advised parents not to allow their teenage children to celebrate the festival tomorrow as ``Shiv Sainiks would not allow such anti-societal activities.''
