Attend to relief work, officials told

By Our Staff Correspondent

TUMKUR FEB. 15. T.R.Jayaram, President of C.N.Halli Taluk Panchayat in Tumkur District, on Saturday directed the government officers to remain in their offices and attend to the problems arising out of the unprecedented drought. Presiding over a meeting to review development work on Saturday, Mr. Jayaram said there was no fodder and the scarcity of drinking water had assumed serious proportions.

"You must become more serious, available to people on all working days, and give priority to drought relief work in villages," he told the officers.

Expressing his anguish over the delay on the part of Bescom engineers in energising drinking water plants, he said the plants at Ankabavi, Ganadala, Gungurubavi, Sangenahalli, Gollarahatti, Gowdana Halli, Thoremane, Lingappanapalya, Katrikehal, and Kamalapura were built three months ago. But Bescom had failed to give power supply.

Mr. Jayaram directed the officers to dig borewells at Gopalanahalli, Lakshmagondanahalli, Byadarahalli, Belaguli, Hale Gollarahatti, Ambedkar Nagara, Bullenahalli, Handankere, Revana Siddeswara Street, Kibbanahalli, Hindiskere, and Kodagallu Palya, where the scarcity of drinking water was acute.

He said the primary health centres at Thimmanahalli and Yalanadu did not have full-time doctors. Nine health centres had inadequate number of paramedical staff.
