Andhra Pradesh-Hyderabad
By Our Special Correspondent
The water crisis has deepened with the Osmansagar reservoir going dry and with the proposed bringing of Krishna water to the city likely to yield some result only by next year, the Government is bracing itself to face the crisis, which undoubtedly will raise political hackles too. According to a rough estimate, the industrial sector is supplied around 27 MGD of water and this is sought to be diverted for residential use. However, it was not yet clear, how the industrial sector would react to this proposal. "The Chief Minister has made this proposal and we are hopeful of convincing them,'' the Tourism Minister, T. Srinivas Yadav, told reporters here on Saturday. That the Government was wary of Opposition parties trying to take advantage of the water crisis was evident when the Minister repeatedly appealed to all political parties not to take political advantage out of the emerging crisis. "Political parties will be organising dharnas and empty pot demonstrations too. But we are not responsible for the crisis. It's nature. I appeal to all political parties not to take advantage of this,'' he said, adding that every effort was being made to expedite the Krishna water project. The Minister appeared to be a bit unsure of the contingency plans to be implemented.
