2 students from Mysore drowned in Cauvery

MADIKERI FEB. 15 . Two engineering students from the National Institute of Engineering College in Mysore drowned in the Cauvery at Dubare in the district on Friday afternoon when they were swimming in the river, according to information received here on Saturday.

The deceased are: Adhokshja (20) and Vinod Babu (20). Post-mortem was done at the Siddapur hospital and bodies handed over to their parents and relatives on Saturday, police confirmed here.

Nine students had come to Dubare from Mysore on motorcycles. Though other students did make efforts to rescue the victims it

turned out to be a futile exercise.

Bodies were fished out from the river late in the evening on Friday.

Lightning kills girl

Sunita (18), a plantation labourer, died at Guhya near Siddapur when lightning struck her while carrying a coffee bag from a plantation in Kodagu on Saturday afternoon.

She was a resident of Siddapur.

Heavy rain, accompanied by thunder and gale, lashed Siddapur and surrounding areas on Saturday afternoon.
